What if some unexplained phenomena do not come from distant planets, but from a reality that exists alongside our own?
The Interdimensional Hypothesis suggests that certain unexplained encounters, anomalies, or reported entities may originate from dimensions or forms of reality beyond ordinary human perception.
Unlike the extraterrestrial hypothesis, which proposes beings from other planets, this idea places the possible source in a different layer of reality rather than in another location within space. It has become a recurring theme in discussions of UFOs, paranormal experiences, and unexplained phenomena.
The Basic Idea
The hypothesis proposes that reality may contain dimensions beyond the three familiar dimensions of space and the dimension of time. If additional dimensions exist, some interpretations suggest that other forms of intelligence could occupy them and occasionally interact with our observable world.
This remains a speculative concept. No scientific evidence has demonstrated that alternate dimensions contain intelligent beings or that they can interact with humanity.
Connections to UFO Reports
Researchers such as computer scientist and UFO investigator Jacques Vallée have explored explanations that move beyond a simple extraterrestrial interpretation of UFO reports.
Some supporters connect the interdimensional idea with accounts of objects that appear suddenly, disappear without an obvious departure, or seem to display unusual movement. They suggest these reports could represent transitions between different realities. Critics point out that similar observations may result from limited data, perspective, sensor effects, or misidentification.
Links to Paranormal Phenomena
The hypothesis is also sometimes applied to ghost sightings, shadow figures, apparitions, time-slip experiences, and other anomalous events. Some proponents suggest that apparently unrelated experiences could share a common interdimensional source.
No reliable evidence has established a connection between these phenomena.
What Does Physics Say?
Theoretical physics, including some versions of string theory, examines mathematical models that involve additional dimensions. These models are developed to address questions about the structure of matter, forces, and the universe.
They do not provide evidence for interdimensional beings, alternate-world visitors, or paranormal encounters. Popular discussions often combine legitimate scientific concepts with interpretations that extend well beyond current evidence.
Challenges and Criticisms
The primary challenge is the lack of direct, independently verified evidence. No confirmed observation demonstrates that an intelligent entity has traveled between dimensions or that another reality is interacting with our own.
The idea is also difficult to test. If an alternate reality cannot be measured or observed under repeatable conditions, it becomes challenging to distinguish the hypothesis from philosophical speculation.

Mainstream science does not recognize the Interdimensional Hypothesis as an established explanation for UFOs, ghosts, or other anomalous phenomena. Researchers generally investigate psychological, perceptual, environmental, technological, and known physical explanations first.
The hypothesis continues to attract interest because it offers a single framework for experiences that appear difficult to classify using conventional categories.

The hypothesis remains compelling because it challenges assumptions about the limits of reality and human perception. If the universe contains structures or dimensions beyond what we can currently observe, future discoveries could change how unusual experiences are understood.
